What should be done with the worn-out pages of the Quran?

When the Holy Quran becomes unusable due to being worn out, then according to the clarification of the Hanafi jurists, the best method is to make a Lahad (a niche in a grave) and bury it in it (Radd al-Muhtar, Vol: 4, Pg: 271). Although there is also permission to put it in flowing water, this is against the preferred way (Khilaf-e-Awla). Similarly, burning is also established, as narrated by Allama Suyuti (may Allah have mercy on him). But this is prohibited according to the Hanafi scholars, as clarified by Allama Shami.

The Instructive Story of the Tourist and the Fisherman

A tourist arrived in Mexico, where he praised the high-quality fish of the local fishermen and asked: "How long does it take to catch them?" The fishermen replied: "Not long!" The tourist asked in surprise: "Then why don't you hunt more? By catching more fish, you can earn more!" The fishermen smiled and said: "This catch of ours is enough for our needs and our family's needs." The tourist further asked: "So what do you do with the rest of your time?" They replied: "We sleep late, fish a little, play with our children, eat with our wives, spend evenings with friends, and stay happy." The tourist spoke excitedly: "I have a Master's from Harvard, I can help you! If you fish more, sell more, buy a big boat, then a second, a third, until you build a whole fleet, then one day you can even open your own factory! Then leave the village, go to a big city, do business, and earn millions!" The fishermen asked: "How long will it take to do all this?" Tourist: "Twenty, twenty-five years!" Fishermen: "And after that?" The tourist happily said: "Then you can retire, go to a coastal village and live peacefully, sleep late, play with children, eat with wives, and spend evenings with friends." The fishermen smiled and replied: "But we are doing that right now! So why the twenty-five years of hard labor?" ⸻ In the race of life, we often consider happiness as a destination that will be achieved after hard work, wealth, and success, but have you ever thought? Is happiness not exactly what we have right now? We put our health, family, and the Hereafter behind us and keep running day and night, thinking that when we have everything, then we will be happy. But when strength fades, youth passes away, and death stands over our heads, then that happiness, for which everything was sacrificed—will it really be the happiness we were searching for? The beauty of life lies in balance. Neither running aimlessly, nor stopping to get lost.
