It takes courage to say this, but I say from experience that when starting the knowledge of religion (Deen), even if the intention is not for action, do not worry. Religious knowledge is such a thing that it will correct the intention as well. Religious knowledge is something that will surely show its effect one day or another and will make that person its own.

There is a saying of a pious elder, he states: "Ta'allamna lighairillahi fa abal ilmu illa an yakoona lillah." Meaning, we acquired knowledge for other than Allah, but the knowledge itself did not agree and ended up being for Allah alone. The point is that in the beginning there was no sincerity, but in the end, sincerity was indeed created. For this reason, I say that even if you do not get the ability to act upon it, keep acquiring knowledge; If Allah wills (In sha Allah), action will surely be granted. I say that Arabic knowledge is such a knowledge through which everything becomes illuminated, and manners (morals) are also corrected through it. When a person constantly reads the stories and conditions of the ascetics (Fuqara) and people of Allah, how long will it take to have an effect?

Yes! Keep this in mind that do not even resolve to commit a sin. The light of knowledge is erased by sin. If there is no sincerity, do not worry, but do not intentionally run after sins and do not become reckless.

Imam Shafi'i (may Allah have mercy on him) complained about his memory to his teacher. He narrates the response given by him in this way:

Shakautu ila Waki'in soo'a hifzi # Fa awsaani ila tarkil ma'aasi

Fa innal ilma fadlun min Ilahin # Wa fadlullahi la yu'ta li 'aasi

Meaning: I complained of my poor memory to my teacher Waki', so he advised me to give up sins. Because knowledge is a bounty from Allah, and the bounty of Allah is not granted to a sinner.
