Hazrat Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that a man came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and asked: "O Messenger of Allah, which type of charity has the greatest reward?" He replied: "To give charity in the state of good health, in the presence of miserliness, with the fear of poverty and the hope of wealth. And do not delay in giving charity until the soul reaches the throat, and then you start saying: 'Give so much to so-and-so, and so much to so-and-so,' while it has already become (the property) of so-and-so."
