Listening to Taraweeh of Haram Sharif, debates, or religious programs on TV?
The fundamental ruling is that whatever is permissible to look at without a TV, there is also an allowance to look at its picture or reflection on a television or its CD on a computer, whether the program is recorded or being broadcast live. However, since by getting engaged in these things, people generally do not stay within their limits; rather, they make it a means and an excuse to view impermissible pictures; therefore, viewing such things is absolutely prohibited. And the author of Ahsan-ul-Fatawa etc., has given the fatwa (verdict) prohibiting these things based on this very wisdom/preventive measure. (Kitab an-Nawazil/Vol: 16/Pg: 444)
