How is it to perform Teejah, Daswan, and Chaliswan?
In some areas, for the Isal-e-Sawab (conveying reward) to the deceased, food for Teejah (3rd day), Satwan (7th day), Daswan (10th day), Chaliswan (40th day), Shashmahi (six-monthly), and Salana (annual) is cooked and served; this has no basis in Islamic Shariah. Sheikh Abdul Haq Muhaddith Dehlvi writes in his book "Jami' al-Barakat" that "Behtar aanast ke na khurad", meaning it is better not to eat such food. If someone must perform Isal-e-Sawab, they should do it according to the Shariah method; there should neither be any restriction of specific foods nor should specific days be fixed. Whatever is available according to one's capacity should be distributed among the poor and needy. The customs of Fatiha and Qul Khwani etc., are Bid'ah (innovations). (Aham Masail / Vol: 2 / Pg: 39)
