"One day, I was sitting on the sermon pulpit, and there was a gathering of ten thousand people around me; everyone's heart was softened, and tears were flowing from their eyes. I said to my heart: 'What will happen if all of them attain salvation and you are destroyed?!' Then, in the depths of my heart, I cried out: 'My Lord! My Master! If tomorrow You decide to punish me, do not let these people know about it; if not for my sake, then preserve the honor of Your own grace! Lest these people think that Allah has punished the servant who showed them His path!'"
