Shaykh-ul-Hadith Hazrat Maulana Muhammad Zakariyya Kandhlawi (Rahimahullah) once addressed the scholars and said: "The essence of my entire life is that if you do five things, you will become righteous (Muttaqi):

(2) Consistency in the Remembrance of Allah (Mudawamah): Meaning, remembering Allah regularly with constancy.

(3) Protection from Sins (Muhafazah): Meaning, abstaining from evil deeds and vices.

(4) Distance from the Causes of Sin (Muba'adah): Meaning, staying away from the means and opportunities that lead to sin.

(5) Adherence to the Sunnahs (Muwazabah): Meaning, fully organizing and managing one's life according to the Sunnahs.

(May Allah Almighty grant everyone the ability to act upon the aforementioned points. Ameen.) Ameen.

The Value of a Watch and a Father's Advice

The Value of a Watch and a Father's Advice

Before passing away, a father called his son to his side, handed him an old wristwatch, and said: "My son, this watch is more than two hundred years old. It belonged to your great-grandfather. Before I hand it over to you, I want you to take it to the watchmaker down the street and ask him how much he would buy it for." The son went to the watchmaker, came back after a short while, and said to his father: "The watchmaker says this watch is very old, worn out, and scratched up. He is only willing to give five dollars for it." The father smiled gently and said: "Alright, now take this watch to the pawnshop at the corner of the market and see what price they offer." The son went to the pawnshop, returned, and told his father: "Father, the pawnshop owner says it is an old and ordinary piece, and he will not give more than ten dollars for it." The father nodded calmly and said: "Now, take this watch to the grand museum in the city and show it to the curator there." The son was a bit surprised, but he went to the museum. This time, he came back after a long time, his eyes wide with astonishment, completely out of breath. He said to his father: "Father! You won't believe it! The curator of the museum examined the watch very carefully with a magnifying glass. He said it is an extremely rare historical masterpiece, and he is ready to buy it for our collection for five hundred thousand dollars ($500,000) right away!" The father looked deeply into his son's eyes, placed a loving hand on his shoulder, and gave him a life-changing piece of advice: "My son, I wanted to teach you that the right place and the right people will always know your true worth. Never stay in a place where people do not value you, and never feel discouraged if ordinary people treat you as worthless. Those who do not know your value will always underestimate you. Always find the right location and surround yourself with the right people who appreciate your true value."
