The rickshaw was running along the left side of the highway when, from a narrow road joining the highway from the left, a car suddenly came in front of the rickshaw without stopping. The rickshaw driver pressed the brakes with full force and swerved the rickshaw to the right, and we narrowly escaped, though my heart had leapt into my mouth.

Instead of the car’s driver apologizing for his mistake, he stuck his head out of the open window and began cursing at us. I thought the rickshaw driver would answer him tit for tat, since the mistake was that of the car’s driver, but the rickshaw driver smiled and waved his hand in a very friendly manner. I said to the rickshaw driver: “Uncle, he left no stone unturned in wrecking your rickshaw and sending both of us to the hospital, and you smiled and bid him farewell?”

The rickshaw driver began to say: Some people, because of deprivations or failures and being dung-brained, are like a loaded garbage truck. When too much garbage gets collected in their minds, wherever they pass they keep scattering filth. And sometimes they dump this filth even on perfectly good people. In such a case, there is no benefit in getting angry; one should pass by without taking a bad effect upon oneself, otherwise you too will start pouring the filth taken from him onto your own companions. And I began to look in astonishment at this rickshaw driver, who had so easily made me understand such a big thing.

Lesson: Some people have the habit that instead of apologizing for their mistake, they start flaring up at the person in front of them, and in response we too leave no stone unturned in giving them a rebuttal that breaks their mouth, from which nothing is gained except loss. If, acting wisely, we pass by showing our good character, then along with saving time and protecting our mind and tongue, we can certainly make the other person think.
