The punishments of Allah (SWT) are of two types: the greater (Akbar) and the lesser (Adna). The greater punishment is the punishment of the Hereafter, which will be given as a retribution for disbelief and transgression. In contrast to it is the lesser punishment, which refers to those afflictions that reach man in this world. For example, in individual lives: severe illnesses, the death of one's dearest loved ones, tragic accidents, losses, failures, etc. And in collective life: storms, earthquakes, floods, epidemics, famines, riots, wars, and many other calamities that engulf thousands, lakhs, and crores of human beings. The wisdom behind sending these disasters is that before becoming afflicted with the greater punishment, people may come to their senses and abandon that way of thinking and acting, as a retribution for which they would ultimately have to suffer that major punishment. In other words, Allah Almighty has not kept man entirely free from trials in this world so that the wagon of life keeps moving with absolute comfort and peace, and man falls into the misconception that there is no power above him that can do him any harm. Rather, Allah Almighty has made such an arrangement that from time to time He keeps sending such calamities upon individuals, as well as upon nations and countries, which make them realize their helplessness and the sovereignty of a Ruler and King supreme to them. These disasters remind each person, each group, and each nation that someone else above is controlling your destinies. Everything has not been handed over to you. The absolute power lies in the hands of that very ruling Authority. When any calamity comes upon you from His side, neither any plan of yours can avert it, nor any jinn, spirit, goddess, or deity.

The Rule of 99

The Rule of 99

A king once said to his minister, "I don't understand one thing: I have every luxury and comfort of the world, yet my heart is not happy. On the other hand, my servant has nothing—neither wealth, nor palaces, nor comforts—yet he remains happy and cheerful all the time." The minister replied, "Apply the 'Rule of 99' to him." "What does the Rule of 99 mean?" asked the king. The minister said, "Tonight, put 99 dinars in a bag and hang it on his door, but write on it: 'These 100 dinars are a gift to you from me.' Knock on the door and return. Then watch what happens throughout the next day." The king did exactly that. The servant came out, picked up the bag with great joy, and quickly began counting. He found that one dinar was missing. He counted again, but it was still 99. Now, he started searching all around the door, thinking it might have fallen somewhere, but found nothing. After a while, his wife and children also joined him and started searching. Thus, they spent the entire night looking for that one missing dinar. In the morning, he came to work with a pale and worried face. Due to the lack of sleep, he felt exhausted and heavy, and his usual joy and cheerfulness were completely gone. Seeing this, the king understood the secret of the "Rule of 99." It means that we forget the 99 blessings bestowed upon us by Almighty Allah and get consumed in chasing the one missing blessing. That missing thing becomes the focal point of our thoughts and the reason for all our struggles and hard work. Consequently, despite having countless blessings, we remain anxious and fail to thank Allah Almighty in every situation, which is the master key to staying happy. ___________📝📝📝___________ Narrated.
