The student was listening intently.

The teacher asked, "If I give you one apple, and one apple, and another apple, how many apples will you have?"

Without any hesitation, the student replied, "4."

The teacher thought that perhaps the student didn't understand the question properly. Patiently, the teacher asked again...

"Look, if I give you one apple, and one apple, and another apple, how many apples will you have in total?"

The student began to think, and after a short pause, said, "4."

Now the teacher was surprised and a bit annoyed, but he asked once more. This time, seeing the disappointment on the teacher's face, the student thought deeply and replied, "4 apples."

Suddenly, the teacher remembered that the student loves lychees; maybe he doesn't like apples, and that's why he isn't able to focus on the question. So, the teacher asked, "Alright, tell me, if I give you one lychee, and one lychee, and another lychee, how many will you have in total?"

The student thought and replied questioningly, "3??"

"Absolutely correct!" the teacher said happily, and then asked again, "Now tell me, if I give you one apple, and one apple, and another apple, how many apples will you have in total?"

"4," the student replied.

Now the teacher got very angry. He first scolded the student and then asked furiously, "How? How on earth will you have 4 apples?!"
