In front of the gate of a large company, there was a famous samosa shop. During lunch hours, company employees would often come there to eat samosas. One day, a manager of the company, while eating a samosa, got into a joking mood with the samosa seller.
The manager said to the samosa seller, "Look Shahid! You have set up your shop very well. But don't you think you are wasting your time and talent selling samosas? Think about it, if you were working in this company like me, where would you be today? Perhaps you too would be a manager today, just like me."
Hearing this, Shahid the samosa seller thought for a moment and said, "Sir, my work is much better than yours. Ten years ago, when I used to sell samosas in a basket, you got your job. Back then, I earned a thousand rupees a month, and your salary was ten thousand. In these ten years, both of us worked very hard. You rose from a supervisor to a manager, and I moved from a basket to this famous shop. Today, you earn 50,000 a month, and I earn 60,000 rupees. But I am not calling my work better than yours because of this money. Rather, I am saying this because of the children.
Just think sir, I started this business with very little money. But my son won't have to go through all that hardship. My shop will go to my son. My children will benefit from the hard work I have done in my life, whereas the benefit of your lifelong hard work will go to your boss's children. Now, you cannot directly seat your son on your managerial post, can you? He will also have to start from zero just like you did, and by the end of his career, he will reach right where you are now. On the other hand, my son will take this business forward from here and will get far ahead of all of us in his time. Now you tell me, how am I wasting my time and talent?"
The manager handed 20 rupees for the two samosas to the samosa seller and walked away without saying a word.
So friends, this is the difference between a job and a business.
