June 14, 2025, Ahmedabad The crash of Air India Flight AI-171 in Ahmedabad has sent shockwaves across the country. Of the 242 people on board the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner that crashed into the BJ Medical College hostel, 241 were killed, while several more died on the ground, taking the total toll to 270. A British-origin Indian passenger is the only survivor. Investigations speeding up Federal Minister for Civil Aviation Ram Mohan Naidu told a press conference that the black box of the plane has been recovered 28 hours after the accident, which will play a key role in finding out the causes of the accident. Eight agencies, including the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB), are investigating. A high-level committee headed by the Home Secretary will submit a report in 3 months. DNA samples of 252 families have been collected through DNA testing, only samples of 13 passengers are left. Rescue operations underway According to Dr. Dhaul Gemati, president of the BJ Medical College Junior Doctors Association, 270 bodies have been brought to the Civil Hospital so far. Rescue and relief work is underway in Mahgani Nagar. Ahmedabad Fire and Emergency Services has been providing rescue services for the past 24 hours. A body and human organs have been recovered within hours. Boeing 787 probe The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has ordered a special safety check of all Air India Boeing 787-8/9 aircraft, which will begin on Sunday. Special monitoring of fuel, engine, and hydraulic systems will be done, and a report will be submitted to the ministry. The result is one of India's worst air disasters. The investigation is expected to reveal the truth and bring justice to the families of the victims.
