June 18, 2025, Washington US President Donald Trump issued tough statements against Iran on Tuesday, including a threat to kill the supreme leader. Iran claimed it had fired hypersonic missiles at Israel. Trump called for an “unconditional surrender,” but US officials said there was still a limited chance for a diplomatic solution. The Pentagon increased military power in the Middle East, deploying additional fighter jets, a second aircraft carrier, and destroyers. B-52 bombers are based in Diego Garcia, while B-2 stealth bombers, which can target Iran’s Fordow nuclear facilities, could be deployed quickly if needed. Former CENTCOM commander Joseph Votel said the B-2 is easy to deploy. The US military is currently in a defensive position and is not attacking Iran. Trump claimed that “we have complete control over the skies of Iran.” He said that “our patience is running out” with missile attacks on civilians or American troops. Iran has refused to negotiate amid the Israeli attacks.
