Trump's threats cast shadow over stock market: Sensex falls over 350 points, Nifty below 24700

US President Donald Trump's threat to increase tariffs on India has shaken the Indian stock market. This morning, the NSE Nifty 50 opened at 24,700, down 23 points, while the BSE Sensex fell 100 points to 80,900. In early trade, the Sensex was trading 351.6 points lower at 80,665.8 and the Nifty was trading 101 points lower at 24,619.2. Small-cap and mid-cap shares were also under pressure. Top gainers and losers Out of the 30 Sensex companies, 20 were trading in the red. The biggest losers were BEL, Adani Ports, Infosys, HDFC Bank, Reliance, and Sun Pharma, whose shares fell up to 1.37 percent. On the other hand, shares of Axis Bank, State Bank of India, Ultra Tech Cement, Maruti Suzuki, and Bharti Airtel rose up to 0.67 percent. BSE Smallcap was trading down 0.07 percent and Midcap was down 0.49 percent. Sectoral performance Nifty IT, FMCG, Financial Services, and Oil & Gas sectors were in the red with a decline of up to 0.33 percent. In contrast, Nifty PSU Bank, Metal, Media, and Pharma were in the red. Sectors were seen trading in the green with a gain of up to 0.30 percent. Trump's threats scare the market VK Vijay Kumar, Chief Investment Strategist at Geojit Investments Limited, said: "Trump's recent statement that 'I will further increase tariffs on India for buying oil from Russia' is a serious threat. If he sticks to his word, tensions in India-US relations will increase, and India's exports may suffer severely. This will also have an impact on GDP growth and corporate earnings for the financial year 2026. The market, which is operating at high valuations, will be affected by this." Vijay Kumar added: *"If tariffs increase, the market will react negatively, and the Nifty may fall below the support level of 24,500.
