Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) has announced a compensation of Rs 25 lakh each for the families of the 11 fans who died in the heartbreaking stampede that took place outside the Chinnaswamy Stadium during the IPL 2025 victory celebrations. The tragedy has not only left Bengaluru but the entire nation in mourning, and RCB has also vowed to set up a long-term relief fund called ‘RCB Cares’. Incident Details On June 4, 2025, around 2 to 3 lakh fans gathered outside the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru during the celebrations of RCB’s historic IPL 2025 victory, while the stadium has a capacity of only 35,000. Poor planning and inconsistent announcements by the administration led to a stampede at gates 3, 12 and 18, in which 11 people, including 13-year-old Divyanshi and 27-year-old Kamatchi, lost their lives. 56 others were injured, many of whom suffered serious injuries due to asphyxia. RCB announced on August 30, 2025, with an emotional message: “Our hearts are broken on June 4, 2025. We lost 11 of our most precious fans, who were the soul of our city, community and team. No help "We cannot fill this gap, but we offer an assistance of Rs 25 lakh to each family, which is a pledge of sympathy and solidarity." Along with this, the 'RCB Cares' fund was set up to provide assistance to the injured and prevent such incidents in the future. The Karnataka government also announced an assistance of Rs 25 lakh to each affected family, while the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) gave Rs 5 lakh per family. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, acknowledging the poor arrangements outside the stadium, ordered a magisterial inquiry at the level of the Deputy Commissioner. The commission, headed by Justice John Michael D. Khanna, declared the stadium unsafe for major events, resulting in the ICC Women's World Cup 2025 matches being shifted to Navi Mumbai. The BJP slammed the government, calling it a "state-sponsored murder", while RCB's marketing head Nikhil Sosale was arrested, even as the Karnataka High Court stayed the action against the KSCA officials.
