Hyderabad: Fire Breaks Out in Ameerpet's Nilgiri Block, Coaching Center Students Rescued

Hyderabad: A sudden fire broke out on Friday around 12:00 PM in the Nilgiri Block building located near Maitrivanam in the Ameerpet area, filling the building with thick smoke and causing chaos in the area. According to eyewitnesses, the fire was seen raging from the upper floors of the building, and within a few minutes, the entire premises was engulfed in smoke.

Coaching Center Students Trapped on the Fourth Floor:

Several students present in a coaching institute located on the fourth floor became trapped inside. Upon receiving the information, police and fire brigade teams reached the spot and started a rescue operation through the balcony.

It was observed that people inside the building were quickly coming down using the stairs, while some students stood at the windows and balcony waiting for help. Multiple fire tenders reached the spot and accessed the fourth floor using a hydraulic ladder platform.

Temporary Traffic Closure, Short Circuit Suspected:

The police temporarily closed the surrounding roads and diverted traffic to avoid hindrance to the rescue operation. According to initial reports, a short circuit is being cited as the possible cause of the fire, though official confirmation will be made only after the investigation is completed.

A Few Students Faced Breathing Difficulties:

During the rescue operation, some students complained of slight breathing difficulties and were shifted to a nearby hospital as a precaution. According to fire department officials, it took about an hour to control the fire, and a major loss of life was averted. Other offices and shops in the building were also evacuated.

Recent Fire Incidents Raise Concern:

Fire incidents in Hyderabad over the past few months have raised questions about safety arrangements. In January 2026, a fire in a commercial building near Charminar destroyed several shops. Similarly, in January, four people were killed in a fire at a furniture shop in Nampally. Despite these incidents, concerns remain regarding the implementation of fire safety laws.

Importance of Safety Measures Amidst Growing Commercial Buildings:

This incident at Nilgiri Block once again highlights how crucial emergency exit routes and fire prevention equipment are in densely populated commercial areas.

Currently, authorities are investigating the actual cause of the fire, and the building management has been asked to provide the safety certificate and records of fire safety measures. In the context of rapidly growing commercial buildings in the city, this incident is being viewed as a warning.
