Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar has expressed deep disappointment over the US election results, calling Donald Trump a "questionable character". He said that it is very sad that a powerful country like the US will be led by a person who is linked to various allegations in his past and who is accused of giving money to hide his connections. According to him, such leadership does not bode well for world peace and American society. Aiyar said that Democratic candidate Kamala Harris was supposed to succeed in a very short time, but the flaws hidden in the depths of American society became an obstacle in her way. According to him, "Kamala Harris showed a strong performance, but the hidden racism in America did not allow the decision to be made in her favor and she was left behind in this race." During this time, Donald Trump received 295 electoral votes, while Harris could get 226 votes. He also took a dig at Trump's friendship with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying it would negatively impact the Indian Prime Minister's global image. Ayer said that it would be difficult to establish a close relationship with a person of Trump's character. Doing so could also expose the Prime Minister's priorities to criticism. Mani Shankar Aiyar's statement is a bitter commentary on the deep disappointment over the recent US election results and the declining state of America's moral values, where power has been entrusted to a man who has been accused of corruption, tainted relationships and serious financial embezzlement. According to Aiyar, "This leadership is neither beneficial to America nor to the world, and is a testament to how deep a chasm has opened in ethics and politics."
