Relief for Azam Khan and Abdullah Azam from Allahabad High Court: Sentence Suspended in PAN Card Case, Bail Granted, But Stay on Conviction Denied

The Allahabad High Court has granted major relief to SP leader Azam Khan and his son Abdullah Azam in two PAN card cases. A single bench of Justice Samit Gopal suspended the sentences of both and allowed their bail applications. However, the bench declined to grant a stay on their conviction.

What Was the Case?

Both had filed criminal revision petitions challenging the trial court's verdict, seeking a stay on conviction, suspension of sentence, and bail. The court had reserved its judgment on October 15, which has now been delivered.

Will Azam Khan Be Released?

According to sources, Azam Khan will not be coming out of jail immediately, as several other cases against him remain pending. Abdullah Azam, however, may be released.

ED Action

Recently, the Lucknow Zonal Office of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) attached land and buildings of the Mohammad Ali Jauhar University in Rampur under the PMLA. Properties worth around ₹426 crore were attached, having an estimated market value of ₹1,170 crore. The ED alleges irregularities involving the misuse of government funds, money from government contracts, and construction materials in the university's construction.

Akhilesh's Jail Visit and Rajbhar's Statement

Recently, Akhilesh Yadav met Azam Khan in jail. Reacting to this, Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party (SBSP) chief Om Prakash Rajbhar wrote on X that "Uncle is preparing to fly a kite after leaving the cycle"—hinting that Azam Khan might leave the SP to join the AIMIM. Rajbhar also claimed that Azam Khan is demanding the Chief Minister's post.
