The International Criminal Court has issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yvo Gallant. The decision was made on charges of crimes against humanity and war crimes in Gaza between October 8, 2023 and May 20, 2024. The court said that the two Israeli leaders are accused of deliberately depriving the civilian population of Gaza of basic necessities such as food, water, medicine, fuel and electricity, which are essential for the survival of civilians. The International Criminal Court has also issued arrest warrants for Hamas’s military wing, Mohammed Deif, who is accused of involvement in the ongoing Israeli bombardment of Gaza and genocide against Palestinians. The court said that there are “reasonable grounds” behind the decision to issue arrest warrants against these individuals. More than 44,000 Palestinians have been killed and more than 104,000 injured as a result of Israeli attacks in Gaza, half of whom are women and children. More than 100,000 people have been displaced and are facing severe malnutrition, while the health system has been completely destroyed. Israel has rejected the jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court, saying the matter is outside its legal boundaries.
