The Incident of Two Students
Hadhrat Maulana Khalil Ahmad Saharanpuri (Rahimahullah), about whom his mentor Hadhrat Gangohi (Rahimahullah) used to say, "Allah has blessed my Khalil with the spiritual affinity of the Companions (Nisbat-e-Sahaba)." Such a great man of Allah, once tied two students to a pillar. One student said, "Teacher! Untie the rope, I am not a slave, there are other madrasas too." Tears came to Hadhrat Maulana Khalil Ahmad Saharanpuri’s eyes; he untied the rope and said, "Son, forgive me." The boy replied, "Yes, yes, I forgive you!" Hadhrat then came to the second student and asked, "Son, should I untie you too?" The student folded his hands and said, "Teacher! You are my spiritual mentor (Sheikh) as well. I have come here to offer my life; it is up to your will whether you keep me alive or put me to death." The teacher kept weeping as he untied the rope, saying, "May Allah grant you honor until the Day of Resurrection." The world does not know who the first student was, where he went, or where he passed away. But the second student was known by every single child, is known by every single child, and will be known by every single child; he was the Sheikh-ul-Hadith, Hadhrat Maulana Zakariya Sahib (Rahimahullah).
