The Supreme Court's warning has created a new twist in the Lakhimpur Kheri violence case, where the police have registered an FIR against former Union Minister of State Ajay Mishra 'Teni', his son Ashish Mishra, and two others for allegedly intimidating a witness. The action was taken in compliance with the Supreme Court's August 4, 2025 order, which is linked to the killing of eight people during the 2021 farmers' protest. Case details On October 3, 2021, a convoy of Teni's son Ashish Mishra allegedly ran over three farmers and a journalist in Tikonia, Lakhimpur Kheri, resulting in the death of eight people. The affected farmers were returning from a protest against the Modi government's controversial farm laws. Witness Baljinder Singh alleged that on August 15 and 16, 2023, Amandeep Singh and an unknown person threatened him and offered him a bribe of Rs 1 lakh so that he would not testify against Ashish Mishra. Singh then shifted to Punjab. In the Supreme Court, lawyer Prashant Bhushan pointed out the threats made by the witness, on which the court directed the Uttar Pradesh Police to investigate and report. Lakhimpur Kheri Police registered an FIR at Padhwa police station on October 4, 2025. The case is under sections 195A (perjury), 506 (criminal intimidation), and 120B (conspiracy). SSP Sankalp Sharma said: “On the orders of the Supreme Court, the witness was contacted and an FIR was registered. The investigation is on.” Political reaction The Congress leader said: “The court has paved the way for justice.
