India’s most wanted gangster Himanshu Bhau has been arrested by the FBI in the United States. According to media reports, he faces around 30 or more serious cases in Delhi, Haryana and several other states, including murder, attempt to murder, extortion and arms smuggling. Interpol issued a Red Notice against him in 2023. Haryana Police had announced a reward of ₹2.5 lakh and Delhi Police a reward of ₹1 lakh on him.

How was the arrest made?

According to an Indian Express report, a source in the NIA said that several teams of Delhi and Haryana Police had been searching for him in the US. Based on technical surveillance and information from informants, his hideout was traced to Las Vegas. His location was then shared with US law enforcement agencies, who arrested him on Thursday evening.

Another fugitive in the same case, Neeraj Faridpuria, was also caught. He is reported to have been evading arrest by removing the ankle monitoring tracker fitted on him after being released on bail this year.

Who is Himanshu Bhau?

The 24-year-old hails from Ritoli village in Haryana’s Rohtak district.

He entered the world of crime at 17 by extorting money in Rohtak’s vegetable market area.

After the murder of a local youth named Sunny from Ritoli village, he escaped from a Hisar juvenile home in 2020 along with about 20 boys.

After meeting jailed gangster Neeraj Bawana, he began threatening traders for extortion and later formed his own gang.

He faces over 30 cases, including 16 murder and attempt to murder cases.

He came into the limelight in 2022 after his name surfaced in three murders in Haryana within 24 hours.

He is accused of demanding extortion from traders, liquor contractors and property dealers, and of getting shots fired to intimidate them.

In 2025, the Himanshu Bhau gang claimed responsibility for the firing outside YouTuber Elvish Yadav’s house in Gurugram. The gang also claimed responsibility for the shooting of gym trainer Vijay Kumar in Delhi on 14 September. The gang’s name also surfaced in incidents such as a murder at a Burger King outlet in Delhi’s Rajouri Garden and firing at a car showroom.

Enmity with the Lawrence gang, network run from abroad

Himanshu is said to be close to the Neeraj Bawana and Bambiha gangs, while he is believed to be an enemy of the Lawrence and Goldy Brar gangs. His gang is reported to be active in Delhi-NCR, Haryana, Punjab and Rajasthan. He has lived in Portugal and is accused of running the gang from abroad. According to reports, gang members contacted businessmen through virtual numbers and social media to demand extortion.

What next?

Several agencies, including Delhi Police, Haryana Police’s STF and the NIA, had been searching for him. Following his arrest in the US, official information is awaited on extradition to India and further legal action.
