Tragic Accident in Jhunjhunu: Gravel Mixer Touches 11,000V Power Line During Roadwork; 8 Workers Electrocuted, 3 Injured

In a devastating accident in Rajasthan's Jhunjhunu district, eight laborers lost their lives while working on a road construction project. A gravel-mixing machine came into direct contact with an overhead 11,000-volt high-tension power line, causing high-voltage electric current to surge through the machinery and ground, instantly electrocuting the workers. Three other workers sustained severe injuries and have been rushed to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment.

How the Accident Happened:

The incident occurred on Monday morning in Chhapoli village under the jurisdiction of the Udaipurwati police station.

Local villagers were collectively paving a narrow road passing through a forest area.

While moving or operating the gravel-mixing machine, its upper structure touched an active high-tension electrical cable passing overhead.

The severe electrical current immediately surged through the site, knocking the nearby workers unconscious as smoke billowed from the high-voltage impact.

Eight laborers died on the spot, while three others suffered serious burn injuries.

Police and Administrative Action

Udaipurwati Station House Officer (SHO) Rampal confirmed the eight fatalities. Senior police and district administrative officials promptly arrived at the scene to assist in rescue efforts, manage the agitated local crowds, and transport the deceased for post-mortem examinations.

Chief Minister Orders High-Level Probe

Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma expressed deep condolences over the tragic loss of lives on X (formerly Twitter). He directed local administrative officials to ensure immediate and top-tier medical assistance for the injured, provide prompt relief support to the grieving families, and ordered a thorough investigation into the incident to determine safety lapses.

Note: Administrative inquiries are currently underway to establish accountability and verify whether safety protocols were violated during the road construction.
