In view of the situation, the Manipur government has suspended internet services in five districts of Imphal West, Imphal East, Thoubal, Kakching and Bishnupur for five days. Along with this, a ban has been imposed on the gathering of five or more people in these districts. The reason for the internet suspension is that the government has taken this decision to avoid increasing tension and rumors. The government order states that "some mischievous elements can spoil the atmosphere through provocative messages and false news on social media, which can cause damage to people's lives and property and communal tension." Therefore, mobile internet, social media apps, VPN, and dongle services have been shut down since 11:45 pm on Saturday. The reason for the protest, according to media reports, was the arrest of the leader of the Metai organization, Urambai Tengol, on Saturday night. Following the arrest of Kannan Singh, violent protests erupted in Imphal East and West districts. Protesters burned tyres on the roads, stormed police posts, and demanded the immediate release of the leader. Clashes also broke out between protesters and security forces at some places, in which three people, including two journalists, were injured. Urambai Tengol has announced a complete shutdown of the districts of the valley for 10 days, except for media and medical services. Government measures The Manipur government has imposed a complete curfew in Bishnupur to control the situation, while in four other districts, a ban has been imposed on the assembly of five or more people under Section 163 of the CrPC. A large number of security forces have been deployed, and the police have appealed to the public to maintain peace and not believe in rumours.
