Jaipur: A shocking incident has come to light in Rajasthan's capital Jaipur, where a brother-in-law and sister-in-law duo stole diesel worth crores of rupees from the Hindustan Petroleum (HPCL) pipeline by digging a tunnel in the name of water supply in a rented house. The police arrested one accused on the spot, while the main conspirator and others escaped. The method of theft The accused took a rented house in the Bagru area and pretended to supply mineral water. A 25-foot long tunnel was dug underground inside the house, which led to the underground pipeline of HPCL. A hole was made in the pipeline and a valve was installed, through which diesel was stolen and sold in the market. The police raided on the complaint of HPCL officials about low pressure in the pipeline and this secret was revealed. Arrest and escape A special police team arrested the accused Rajesh Urang during the raid, while the main conspirator Shravan Singh and his brother-in-law Dharmendra Verma alias Rinku escaped. According to the police, the gang had been stealing oil through tunnels in Jaipur and Ajmer for several years and cases have been registered against them in other states as well. Financial Profit Theft The gang made huge profits by selling the adulterated diesel at cheap prices. The police are now searching for the absconding accused and are conducting further investigations.
