New Delhi: A severe heat wave has wreaked havoc in northwestern and central India. The temperature in Rajasthan's Sri Ganganagar reached 48 degrees Celsius, the highest in the country. The maximum temperature in Delhi was between 40.9 and 45 degrees, but due to humidity, citizens felt a scorching heat of 51.9 degrees. According to the weather forecast, the severe heat wave will continue till June 13. After this, light to moderate rains may provide relief to people in some areas of Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan. The IMD said that the southwest monsoon, which has been stalled on the Maharashtra coast since May 26-27, will advance again in the next two to three days. Heat trend This year, the month of May was cooler than usual due to the early arrival of the monsoon, but due to lack of rain in June, a heat wave began in northwestern and central India from June 8-9. Temperatures crossed 44 degrees at 22 places in Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, and Madhya Pradesh. Rajasthan situation: 48 degrees in Sri Ganganagar, 6.5 degrees above normal. Chittorgarh recorded 45.7 degrees Celsius, Churu and Phalodi 45.8, and Jaipur 44.4 degrees Celsius.
