The beautiful highway of moderation, the center of knowledge and gnosis, the source of goodness and blessings, the sanctuary of the people of truth, the spokesperson of Ahl al-Sunnah wal-Jama'ah, the mother of madrasas, the Azhar of India—Darul Uloom Deoband.

Call it an institution, or call it a revolutionary movement launched during the British era; call it the antidote to the mischiefs breeding in the current era, or call it the guarantor of the survival of the original form of Islam in this age of modernism; call it the fortress for the protection of the Finality of Prophethood (Khatm-e-Nabuwat), or call it an iron wall erected for the defense of Islam.

In short, this institution is a magnificent masterpiece of Divine power, a manifestation of Divine wisdom, a great favor upon the devout of the Islamic world—especially those of the subcontinent—a means for the revival of Islam, and an exposition of establishing the truth and annihilating falsehood.

This blessed institution, established on the foundation of sincerity and piety, not only stood as a guarantor for the survival of Islam but also proved to be an unparalleled camp for human development (mardom-sazi), from which hundreds of scholars of Hadith (Muhadditheen) and Quranic commentators (Mufassireen), thousands of jurists (Fuqaha) and theologians (Mutakallimeen), and countless orators and preachers emerged. They not only raised the flags of success and victory in every field, every sector, and every corner of the world, but also performed such outstanding feats that the intellect of the world was left astonished, and the people of the world could not help but praise their upbringing and training.

Yes, I am talking about the same Darul Uloom Deoband and its beneficiaries, the scholars of Deoband (Ulema-e-Deoband).

As the poet says:

"History compiles the chronicles of the passionate lovers here."

And praise be to Allah, this blessed chain of nurturing great personalities continues to this day and, God willing, will continue until the Day of Resurrection.

An Incident from the Court of Hazrat Umar (R.A) / Rights of Children

An Incident from the Court of Hazrat Umar (R.A) / Rights of Children

In the court of Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), a father filed a case against his son, claiming, "He does not fulfill my rights!" Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) questioned the boy, who replied, "O Ameer al-Mu'minin (Leader of the Faithful)! Is it only the father who has all the rights over the children, or do the children also have some rights over the father?" Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) replied, "Children also have rights binding upon the father." The boy said, "I wish to hear those rights." He said, "The right of a child upon the father is that he should choose a noble woman to have children with! And when the child is born, he should give them a good name so that it brings blessings! And when they attain maturity of understanding, he should teach them manners and provide them with religious education!" The boy said, "My father did not fulfill even a single right among these. When I was born, he named me 'Ju'al', which means 'the dung beetle'! And he did not teach me even a single letter of religion; he kept me completely blank from religious education." Hearing this, Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) became very angry with the father, reprimanded him severely, and dismissed the case, saying, "Go and first compensate for your own wrongdoing, and after that, complain about the wrongdoing of your son!" Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) dismissed the case and told the father, "You have violated rights even more than he did. Go and do not treat your children in such a manner."
